Thompson Vineyard, Santa Barbara
Only a mile away from White Hawk vineyard, this is a somewhat different beast. Chunky and fruit-driven in its youth, a few years in bottle bring out complex animal notes and subtle Indian spices. The level of viticulture is amazing, the soils depleted of nutrients and the vines rarely crop over 2.5 tons per acre even in the most robust of years. As one of our more "proven" vineyards, the easiest way to judge it is to try one of the compelling wines made from the vineyard.
